Every once in a while, the inner hippie yearns to break free. In the middle of this Chicago summer, let’s channel the ghost of Bill Walton and re-convene with The Dead.Join us for a two night stand as Tributosaurus becomes The Grateful Dead, Thursday July 25 and Friday 26th at Martytrs. If you’ve missed previous incarnations, these Dead shows are a unique Tributosaurus experience. We’ll re-create a few studio versions that merit our standard meticulous treatment, but the nights will freely stray into the improvisational territory this oeuvre demands. You’ll hear and see 2 drum kits, world beat percussion, many guitars, pedal steel, banjo, mandolin, saxophone, and more. Both shows will be filled with The Dead’s unique brand of street party psychedelia; with disparate jams, twists, turns, and special guests. The nights will feature some set list and personnel variety, so come to one or both. Consider it a chance for your soul to dance, as we playfully emulate the legendary live experience Bob and Jerry and Phil invented.Come hear tunes you love, feel the grooves, and get spacey.

Madera Once 8PM. Angel Sierra 8:45PM. Lester Rey 9:45PM.Angel Sierra is a Puerto Rican artist who bridges the cultural divides between contemporary North American music production and Caribbean rhythms and soul. His work is characterized by genre fusion, rich collaborations, and a unique artistic style that captivates audiences of different backgrounds. A graduate of the Chicago Academy for the Arts and Berklee College of Music, Angel Sierra returned to his homeland in 2019. Before embarking on his solo career, he released an album titled “Vidas Pasadas” under the name “Shula,” collaborating with a unique selection of artists from Puerto Rico. In April 2023, Angel launched his first solo single, “Te Cuido.” This track became the lead single of his EP, “Aprendiendo a Vivir,” where he delves into personal themes like love and intimacy within his sonic journey.
Madera Once is a four-piece band that pays tribute to Mexican-regional and traditional music with a contemporary spin. Based out of Chicago, Illinois, Madera Once's mission is to keep Mexican and Latin American music alive as it forges a new identity through the musician and audiences within the United States. Madera Once has had the privilege of playing throughout Chicago, most notably in September 2019 they opened for La Santa Cecilia at the Concord Theater. Madera Once has also graced many of the notable stages in Chicago such as the Green Mill, The Jay Pritzker Pavilion and Mole de Mayo in Chicago.Their debut EP: amado. was released in 2019. Madera Once is currently writing their follow-up EP that still needs to be named. Madera Once is primarily made up of Jose Alfredo Guerrero (vocals/guitar), Mario Hernandez (bass), Alex Tellez (drums/percussion), and Javier Martinez (accordion, requinto, guitar).
Lester Rey tiene la Salsa pa' tu Rave, el Juketeo pa' tu Perreo, y los Boleros pa tus feels.Expanding upon the cultural psyche that is Latin music by diving head first into the intersections and nuances of identity, Lester Rey fearlessly searches for the divine in the spaces between the gritty club bass and the beautiful Caribbean rhythms. Exploring personal relationships, questioning norms, and pushing boundaries both in lyrical content and delivery, their music teases amalgamations of crooning, chanteo, and shatta flow. Vocal styles found in R&B, Reggaeton, and Dance Hall. The global, sonic landscape Lester Rey creates is informed by the concrete jungles of Chicago, the tropical island of Puerto Rico, and evolves further with the spirit in the machine of the internet.Lester Rey defines his catchy, eccentric, and honest sound as a creation that taps into the knowledge "de aqui y de alla" to create a world "ni de aqui y ni de alla" (the knowledge from here and from there to create a world neither from here or from there). A new home for people who feel forgotten, displaced, and left behind to survive between the cracks. A proclamation, a stance to declare our existence and worth in a post colonial matrix.

Haiden Henderson’s music always seems to capture those deep cutting truths that you haven’t been able to find words for and wrap them in candy-coated melodies. As a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, he makes sense of the confusion and chaos that comes with being in your 20s in the 21st century. His honest experiences and unfiltered emotions scrape across alternative soundscapes, allowing his pop vocals and melodies to breathe as much as they bleed. Raised in Northern California by a single mother, Haiden moved around a lot, leading him to pick up various hobbies as a way to make friends and garner attention. Having attended a math and science high school, Haiden first started his college career in Aerospace Engineering but slowly realized his heart was in music. Junior year, he transferred to the USC Thornton School of Music, living out of his car and working part time until he could afford an apartment. After a childhood hand condition forced him to take a break from guitar, Haiden fell into songwriting. Sharing his songs online, Haiden quickly gained an audience. In 2022, an acoustic teaser of his song “Can’t Hurt Me”, amassed nearly 10 million views paving the way for viral moments to come. On its heels, “Sorry To Your Next Ex'' exploded to the tune of 20 million global streams, propelling his debut EP, Good Grief! to surpass 50 million global streams to date. Earmilk professed, “‘Sorry To Your Next Ex’ will quickly place Haiden as the voice of a generation.” He only increased momentum in 2023, with his sophomore EP, ‘Choke on My Heart" consisting of viral hits “Fresh Blood” and “Pretty Little Addict” leading him to sign with LAVA/Republic Records. Now in 2024, Haiden has launched his full project, 'Haiden Henderson', releasing singles “hell of a good time” and “bleachers,” recently sold out LA/NYC headline shows, and is gearing up to release a slew of new songs in a style he calls, 'one man boy band'.

CHIRP Radio’s Live Lit and Music series, ‘The First Time’, is unlike any storytelling show in Chicago. It pairs our six unique readers' personal stories about a first-time experience with a song performance. This unique structure allows the story to resonate with audience members as they experience the accompanying song covered by our house band, The First Time Three, featuring Liam Davis, Gerald Dowd and Steve Frisbie. The band has played with musicians including Robbie Fulks, Nora O'Connor, Justin Roberts, Tributosaurus, Frisbie and more, and takes special care to perform unexpected song arrangements of said covers. It is hard to tell what the audience enjoys more: each story or each song. The show is a benefit for CHIRPRadio.org and is hosted by The Moth champion, Jenn Sodini. Featured readers include:

“As a child I can remember locking myself in my room with a big old set of headphones and listening to the Band's Music From Big Pink album over and over again,” said Reid Genauer, the lead singer and founder of the New York based quintet Assembly of Dust. “Besides loving the hell out of the music, I was intrigued with the production value in the recordings. As I listened I felt almost like I was there in the room with the Band at a moment of perfection. That intimate listening experience drew me in and is what inspired me to be a musician.”Drawing on that influence and countless others, over the last ten years Assembly of Dust has crafted a unique sound that recalls the likes of the Band, Traffic and Neil Young. They have taken that early 70's Americana swagger, put their own funky spin on it, and earned comparisons to the next generation of Americana heroes including Ryan Adams, Mumford and Sons and Wilco. Hooky melodies, poetic lyrics, and a profound depth of musicianship promptedUSA Today to say Assembly of Dust has what it takes to "dazzle the Alt-Country universe."
DEAN JOHNSON, RICHARD JAMES, DAN KELLY, LYLE BREWERWith a diverse catalog of hundreds of songs, the musical juggernaut Neighbor has become one of the most exciting and unpredictable live bands on the music scene today. Grown in large part by the passion and devotion of the fans called Neighbors, their symbiotic relationship inspires and touches every performance. The creation of childhood neighbors Richard James (vocals, keys) and Lyle Brewer (guitar), Neighbor combines ambitious composition, soulful balladry, and a fearless approach to their lengthy improvisations. The quartet is rounded out by Dan Kelly (bass) and Dean Johnston (drums) who fuel the groove and lay a solid foundation for Neighbor’s “down home” sound. Come see what’s good in the neighborhood.

Alaina Stacey co-founded the Nashville-based Americana group, Maybe April, appearing onstage at the Wilshire Theatre in Los Angeles, alongside Bonnie Raitt, Kris Kristofferson, and The Goo Goo Doll’s Johnny Reznick as part of a GRAMMY week performance called A Song Is Born. Their Audiotree video went viral, and it remains one of Audiotree’s most popular videos. With Maybe April, she opened for Brandy Clark and Sarah Jarosz, performed at Pilgrimage Music Festival, Merlefest, SXSW, CMA Fest, and other festivals, and released an EP and record, The Other Side, which was produced by her brother Julian. The band won “Americana Group of the Year'' two years in a row at the Arkansas Country Music Awards. On her upcoming EP, “DAY,” which is the second in the three-part series EP series, Stacey hones in on active energy, the feeling of walking into broad daylight with a determination to right all of one’s wrongs. Recorded and produced by Evan Redwine in Nashville and Brian Deck in Chicago, Stacey’s EP “DAY” features a bright and sunny sonic outlook, despite many of the songs being drenched in heartbreak and lyrical melancholy. In her latest single, “I Would,” Alaina works with an upbeat and shiny pallet to bring hard truths into the harsh light of day.
Nashville-based artist Madeleine Kelson has been writing and performing music since childhood, developing a unique, country-leaning style of Americana laced with elements of rock and blues. Inspired by artists like Patty Griffin, Jason Isbell, and Brandi Carlile, she’s a dynamic and down-to-earth storyteller, using her own life experiences as fodder for poetic, yet accessible, lyrics. Madeleine has been featured twice on NPR, has viral TikToks featuring her single, The Way I Do, with a combined 1.4 Million+ views. She is featured on Spotify editorial playlists, including Queer As Folk, Emerging Americana, and Fresh Finds Folk. With her April 2022 launch of her debut solo album, While I Was Away, Kelson blends haunting melodies and driving percussion with a particularly human warmth.

12th Annual MobettaHoliday JamOur Favorite Holiday TraditionYear in and year out,Maurice Mobetta Brown’s Christmas gift to Chicago plays out on our stage, and never fails to be THE show of the year. Each year we anxiously wait to hear which musical giants Maurice will get to grace our stage, like little kids waiting to open their stockings. Maurice s own musical star has done nothing but sky rocket since we first encountered him all the way back in his Lettuce days in New Orleans. Originally from Harvey, Illinois, Maurice’s ticket to musical dominance was punched early on,when he won the prestigious Wynton Marsalis prize. He went on from there to attend Chicago’s own Columbia College. A seven time grammy winner, so far,Mobetta has played, and arrangedfor Lettuce,Tedeschi Trucks Band, Anderson Paak and The Free Nationals as well as Silk Sonic. Maurice is also an accomplished solo artist and a brilliant bandleader, not to mention his amazing resume as a producer. In past years Maurice has brought alonga slew of legendary artists to help him celebrate Chicago and the holidays. FromMononeon to Thundercat and fromTalib Kweli to Cory Henry every year his line up is packed with the heaviest hitters in the game in unimaginable all star arrangements. Last year we had Anderson Paak onstage with Weedie Bramah Isiah Sharkey and Sput. Where can anyone ever see such a thing except once a year? HERE
