"Led by sultry-voiced guitarist/singer co-songwriter Jan King, this bluesy rock and roll trio has great material and the chops to work it to the max. King's melodically soulful playing is fiery and elegant over a rhythm section that sounds twice its size." Rick Allen, Vintage Guitar Magazine
John Mead is a bandleader, guitarist, singer, and songwriter who has been performing at Martyrs regularly for over a decade. Besides his work on cover and tribute shows with the True Believers, Breckenridge and Company, and others (including running the first several Great Moments in Vinyl shows), Mead has been performing his original songs for over twenty years, with the legendary Mystery Train as well as Coyotes, Angelus, and Conspiracy Theories. This is his first full-length set of originals since Lockdown.

Ur Mom is a four-piece rock band from the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Comprised of vocalist/rhythm guitarist Maura Wolf, lead guitarist Tommy Hinds, drummer Alex O’Malley, and bassist Andrew Vucsko-Cameron the band combines an eclectic set of influences including classical rock, blues, funk, folk, and others. The band has performed in and around the Chicagoland area at such notable venues and events as Subterranean, Beat Kitchen, Winnetka Music Festival Cobra Lounge, The Cubby Bear, Navy Pier, Gman Tavern, Liars Club, and others. Additionally, they competed in the 17th (2023) and 18th (2024) annual Bitter Jester Music Festival and placed as the Runners Up (2nd place) and Grand Champions (1st place) respectively and recently opened for ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Ravinia Festival.
Mak and Jamie have been making music since the summer of 2023. Jamie responded to a flier that Mak put up in a Northwestern building which said something like "Looking for Bandmates that like Big Thief," and Jamie likes Big Thief. Lily and Levi joined – both also via flier (crazy) - over the next several months. Pretty quickly, they stumbled into the abundance and magic that is the Chicago music scene. They released their debut EP, “Well,” via Early Work Records, recorded with their good friend Sam Genualdi (Maiden King, Pyzow), before embarking on a 6-city east coast tour. They've played at many of Chicago’s historic venues (Metro, SPACE, Schuba’s, Beat Kitchen), and recently played the Winnetka Music Festival. Their debut LP is in the works, recorded with Sam and Jack Henry (Friko, Horsegirl, Free Range). They are, by all measures, having a lot of fun!
Fueled by catchy hooks and uplifting energy, Heat Above unleashes the kind of anthemic rock that’s fit for the stadium. Based near Flint, Michigan, the band consists of Brady Lott (vocals/guitar), Jack Davis (bass/vocals), and Jalon Swinton (drums). The collective bends genres between buzzing rock numbers, blazing punk, danceable instrumentals, and unique melodies.
I’m a lifelong Wisconsinite & write, record, & produce all of my music at home in Milwaukee. I’ve been independently releasing as ‘Jacob Slade’ since 2019 and, since then, have shared three full-length albums, landed placements on Spotify’s juniper, Morning Acoustic, & ‘Fresh Finds’ playlists , and gotten to share my music with over a million (!!!) of you around the world. My music falls somewhere between indie-folk & dream-pop, which has led me to start defining my sound as ‘dream-folk’. I see dream-folk as music that feels ethereal, introspective, & nostalgic thanks to rich & textured soundscapes, tender acoustic elements, & pop sensibility. I also love to leave hidden sounds in my music (birds chirping, floor creaks, etc.) to help bring you further into my headspace & highlight the beauty I see in combining music with the sounds of day-to-day life. For live shows, I’m very fortunate to be joined by my good friends & bandmates: Austin Wood, Anthony Kopczynski, Bailey Fiste, and Jacob Olson. I’m currently working on my fourth full-length album with tentative release plans for May 2025.

It's a COUNTRY REVUE with THE HOYLE BROTHERS!*MARTYRS' ~ 3855 N. Lincoln Ave., ChicagoCome listen -and- DANCE as MYLES McVEIGH, lead singer of the Hoyles, shares his mic with an array of friends:
Reilly Downes has long been known as the Sad Cowgirl of Chicago. An Americana artist hailing from the Texas Hill Country, she cut her teeth as a session musician in Nashville, singing behind some of Americana’s favorite singer/songwriters.
Peter Joly is a Buffalo born troubadour-Chicago, IL transplant since'93 (Big Breakfast, For Pilots). Peter's focus is as an Americana singer/songwriter who puts his best foot forward with his terrific 2016 self titled release. His band is Jon Williams on guitar, Josh Piet on bass, and very often harmony singer Rachel Drew.
"The great rock and roll bridge between punk's back alleys and country music's windswept plains." - Portland Mercury"Jon Langford has grit in his voice and melody in his soul. A punk-rock pioneer, a leading light of alt-country, a troubadour for our times, a musicians’ mentor, a visual artist of uncommon skill, a singer-songwriter who writes with the authority of having lived a life rather just having imagined it, how do you peg Langford? Is he folk, rock, country, punk, what? Yes, he’s all that. Langford is Langford, a transplanted Welshman who’s been in Chicago long enough for us to claim him, and in doing so, stake a claim to a treasure." - Chicago New CityThe L'homme de Renaissance of indie rock. (That's "Renaissance Man" for all you eating "Freedom Fries.") He's done it all in his time. For us, he's created lots of cover art, produced lots of records, lent his ham-fisted guitar stylings to recordings by the Old 97's, Kelly Hogan, Sadies, Sally Timms, Danbert Nobacon, Jon Rauhouse, Alejandro Escovedo, among others, draws a comic strip, plays in the long running art/punk collective the Mekons, written a book, appeared as the backing band on This American Life and acts as a reeling papa bear figure to many of Chicago's musicians looking for direction and reassurance in this vicious racket we call the music industry. Among the guiding forces in the Pine Valley Cosmonauts and the Waco Brothers and Wee Hairy Beasties. At any given time, he has several projects going. It tires us just trying to keep up. As nice as he is prolific. Sort of rare in the hyper-rarified environment of notoriety.
The Lawrence Peters Outfit is a Chicago's most fiery honky tonk band, with the deepest country sound. Lawrence, best known for his lead vocal on "The Old Black Hen", on the watershed Songs: Ohia/ Magnolia Electric Company album, leads the "Outfit" through his own finely crafted originals, and cherry-picked classics. The band is a super-group of Chi-Town pickers, including Matt Gandurski on lead guitar, Dave Sisson on rhythm guitar and harmonies, and Josh Piet on upright bass.

Whether traveling to gigs on horseback or by tour bus, Americana mavens The Brothers Comatose forge their own path with raucous West Coast renderings of traditional bluegrass, country and rock ‘n’ roll music. The five-piece string band is anything but a traditional acoustic outfit with their fierce musicianship and rowdy, rock concert-like shows. The Brothers Comatose is comprised of brothers Ben Morrison (guitar, vocals) and Alex Morrison (banjo, vocals), Steve Height (bass, vocals), Philip Brezina (violin), and Greg Fleischut (mandolin). When they’re not headlining The Fillmore for a sold-out show or appearing at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, the band is out on the road performing across America, Canada, Australia, and hosting their very own music festival, Comatopia, in the Sierra foothills.
Bronwyn Keith-Hynes has long been renowned as a prolific instrumentalist, earning two IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year awards as well as a Grammy for her work with Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway. But on her latest album I Built a World, the Charlottesville native unlocks an impressive new sound: her voice."This is the first album I've ever sung lead on. Singing is something I'd always thought I'd do at some point and in 2020 I had the time and space to finally find my voice," Bronwyn says. Even as the pandemic halted touring and so much else, vocal lessons kept her focused. "It's funny," she jokes of the timing, "you put a mask on me and suddenly I want to sing."I Built a World marks her first vocal album, but Bronwyn has been a musician since before she can remember. "Apparently, I saw two girls busking on the street playing fiddles when I was three," she explains with a laugh, "and I pointed to them and said, 'I will do that.'"

The principal is simple and exquisite: put five, brilliant and collaborative musicians in a room, empower them equally, and then set them free. And when they choose a piece of music, it is not the tune’s provenance that matters, not its musicological era, nor its country of origin. It is the story being told, leading to the journey that the musicians embark upon, together. Musicians: Isaac Alderson – whistles, flutes, uillean pipes Jesse Langen – guitar Jackie Moran – banjo and bodhran Carolyn Surrick – viola da gamba The connective tissue is not a genre, it is a passion. Theirs is commitment to remarkable music making, and indeed, this is where Ensemble Galilei dwells, sharing the journey with audiences, decade after decade.

ÉSSO is the brainchild of Chicago born songwriter and producer Armando Pérez. He curated an inner city big band of rotating members which definitively unsealed an agile sound propelling them to perform for mutli-cultural concerts and festivals alongside Grammy winning artists. The group made a splash by invoking polystylistic enthusiasm from the uncompromising urban streets that birthed House music, as well as undeniably potent movements in hiphop, punk rock, and free jazz. Drawing on these raw influences, the Chicago based band effortlessly merge Chicano and Boricua roots music with Cuban son into a rhythmic sancocho filling dance floors and providing ample evidence of Chicago’s presence as a hotbed of diverse new music in the States.Their bilingual lyrics bring gusto to the socio-political conversation while adding context to inspired musical compositions and alluring beats. Swirling guitar, brass horns, spoken word and group singing add to their tropical funk outfit with a fearless focused spirit intact. ÉSSO’s foundational versatility has taken the band on tours across the US and into Mexico behind their critically acclaimed releases of original independent music online and on vinyl. This is the soundtrack of rebel streets remixed for the future by its outspoken immigrant youth.ÉSSO has performed for notable music festivals including: Redbull Music Xicago Festival, Ruido Fest, Chicago World Music Festival, Taste of Chicago, Clark Street Festival, South By Southwest (SXSW), Festival Cultural de Zacatecas (MX), Do Division, Pilsen Fest, Michelada Fest, Villapalooza and many more street celebrations across the US.They've shared the stage with: Cafe Tacvba, Natalia Lafourcade, Bomba Estereo, Ozomatli, Los Amigos Invisibles, Kinky, Princess Nokia, as well as Songhoy Blues, La Santa Cecilia, Sonido Gallo Negro, Los Rakas, Chicha Libre, Saul Williams, Jeremy Sole, Jenny & the Mexicats, Gaby Moreno, Alice Russel, Euforquestra, Boogat and more.Live band members include: Armando Pérez (guitar/vocal), Kevin Miller (saxophone), Dan Lieber (drums/percussion), Ezra Lange (bass), Diana Mosquera (vocals), Jess Anzaldúa (percussion), Luis Tubens (vocals), Matthew Davis (trombone) and special guests.*** Their notable experience and active work in performing for grassroots community organizations and volunteer programs has helped raise awareness and vital funding for important after-school, immigrant justice, humanitarian, and fair housing programs across the US.
