Sqwerv's roots run deep in the Denver music scene. Those roots began to take hold as the band started hosting local open jams and playing gigs at small bars and venues in 2017. Since then, Sqwerv has become a staple in Denver's music scene with bands like Magic Beans, Squeaky Feet, Eminence Ensemble and Rado. This four-piece Indie-Psych Rock band’s love for classic rock, psychedelic music and improvisation creates a sound that is refreshingly original and exciting. Sqwerv realizes the importance of good songwriting and is always pushing themselves in the improvisation. The band spends a great deal of time writing lyrics, composing, and developing song structure that has grown into a catalogue that ranges from twelve minute prog songs inspired by Homer's Odyssey to two minute psych songs about love. They are fiercely driven to get to those transcendent, improvised spaces that all jam-music lovers crave. Sqwerv continues to deliver to their audiences through groove, counterpoint, polyrhythms and risk taking. In the last two years the band has released two studio albums, three live albums and completed two national tours with no plans on stopping. They have had the opportunity to open for acts like Lespecial, Spafford, Eggy and Big Something. They hold themselves to a rigorous tour schedule playing unique shows for their fans on a regular basis. Sqwerv leans into the dark and the beautiful while thriving off of the sounds they create and connections they make.

A Special Friends and Family Night with Family Groove Company, including the debut of CSN-tial Quartet, a new band featuring Jordan Wilkow and Janis Wallin of FGC and Dave Hamilton and Anne Katzfey of 56 Hope Road, performing the music of Crosby Stills & Nash and some of their (harmony singing) friends.Family Groove Company integrates the groove sensibility developed by funk/jazz crossover artists like Herbie Hancock and Medeski, Martin, and Wood, with thoughtful, tight songwriting that takes cues from the likes of Steely Dan and the Beatles. The result? An infectious sound the band calls "groove informed jazz/rock." Defined by rich analog keyboards, tight crunchy guitar, and a pocket-based rhythm section, FGC brings a fresh sound that bends genres and dares the listener not to dance. The band got its start in Los Angeles, where the four members met in music school, and then planted its roots in Chicago in late 2002. In the span of their career, FGC has played over 1000 shows from coast to coast, logging stage time in more than 350 venues in 34 states. Notable performances include 19 straight years at Summer Camp Festival in Illinois, rocking large Chicago stages like the Riviera Theater and Vic Theatre, and playing alongside heavyweights like Victor Wooten, moe., Umphrey’s McGee, and Lotus. The band’s discography includes five full length albums, Reachin’, The Charmer, Live in Chicago, Models and Metrics, and Through with Tomorrow.

While committed to upholding the tradition of brass bands, they have also extended themselves into the realms of funk and hip-hop to create their signature sound. “Rebirth can be precise whenever it wants to,” says The New York Times, “but it’s more like a party than a machine. The duo is Ary Paloma Jeebie (also front lady for The Amazing Heeby Jeebies) and Ellis Clark (also a founding member of Epicycle, Social Act and formerly of The Chamber Strings). Taking you to 60s-70s psychedelic country with a twist and a shake!
“Songs are just places you keep your stories” lead singer and songwriter of Black Friars Social Club, explains of his life of loss and redemption.Black Friars Social Club formed out of a residency in a gritty Chicago Irish pub they distilled songs down to their melodic skin and rhythmic bones. illustrating twisted tales from the alley shadows while tugging at your heart.
After re-releasing their landmark 1972 album Anomaly on vinyl in 2024 (pressed by Smashed Plastic and overseen by musician and engineer Ellis Clark), Chicago's McLuhan inked a deal with Think Like A Key Music, a boutique record label committed to the CD revival, to officially release Anomaly on compact disc for the first time. The CD was released on Friday, July 25, and contains exclusive photos, expansive liner notes, and more. Named after media theorist and philosopher Marshall McLuhan, Chicago-based progressive rock band McLuhan began its musical journey as a mixed-media group and was the brainchild of David Wright, who composed most of the music and wrote the lyrics on their lone album Anomaly, which was released by the iconic label Brunswick Records in 1972. McLuhan formed after meeting as students at the University of Illinois-Chicago in the late 1960s and their early gigs, including a residency at The Wise Fools Pub, incorporated mixed-media footage to complement the band's use of offbeat instrumentation, sound effects, and free jazz/fusion/orchestral arrangements. McLuhan's initial line-up included Paul Cohn on flute, clarinet, and tenor sax, Neal Rosner on bass and vocals, both Michael Linn and John Mahoney on percussion, Dennis Phillips on guitar and vocals, Tom Laney on keyboards, and Wright on trumpet and vocals. Based on the their growing local popularity and the strength of their live performances at Wise Fools, McLuhan caught the attention of producer and A&R man Carl Davis, who signed the band to Brunswick, then known mostly as an R&B and Soul label, in an attempt to court white listeners with a "crossover" act with some mainstream appeal. McLuhan's aptly titled album for Brunswick, Anomaly, certainly stood out from the label's other signings at the time but failed to generate much in the way of sales as the band was unable to tour or play larger hometown venues to promote the release. Now coveted by record collectors and fringe music enthusiasts, Anomaly has gained a cult following and the band has since been featured in the Chicago Reader, Prog Archives, It's Psychedelic Baby, and a slew of underground music blogs. Current McLuhan band leader Neal Rosner, who also has a flourishing solo career, enlisted the help of another noted Chicagoan, musician and producer Ellis Clark, to reissue Anomaly on vinyl for the fist time in over 50 years and the pair worked closely with vinyl manufacturer Smashed Plastic for the fall 2024 release. A revamped version of McLuhan featuring original members Cohn, Laney (now using his given surname Tojza), and Rosner with longstanding collaborators Luke Meyer, Mitch Marcus, Barb Rosner and new recruit Bart Coyle, have been building a new generation of followers by performing regularly at venues in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.

Sat, Oct 3rd - Doors 7PM - Show 8PM - $25
We like to believe our lives can be shaped into stories clean arcs, legible meaning but life refuses the outline. Instead, it moves bluntly and without apology, indifferent to our sense oforder. Events pile up without resolution, momentum divorced from direction, motion confused for progress. Sometimes the only refuge left is the nowhere of our own minds.El Ten Eleven’s Nowhere Faster, the duo’s 16th release, was forged within that unease. Across eight tracks, it considers not just nothingness but velocity the strange urgency that propels us forward even when the destination remains unclear. We are committed to acceleration, convinced speed itself might save us. The 33 minute album slows just long enough to pose the harder questions: what are we running from, and what do we think we can out run? That tension appears even in the album’s artwork, once again created with longtime collaborator Rob Fleming. It depicts a classic liminal space: familiar, anonymous, quietly unsettling. Astained glass colored building and a streetlamp blur at the edges, suggesting motion that feels less like escape than enclosurethe kind that traps rather than transports.Nowhere Faster emerged from Kristian Dunn and Tim Fogarty’s longest break from touring and recording in their 23 years together, though “break” is something of a misnomer. Dunn’s famously restless creative pace never slowed. Instead, he began writing for not one but two drummers, handing Fogarty one of the most demanding challenges of his career. The record also marks a first for the band, weaving real strings and piano throughout, deepening the palette of what is already one of their most layered works. The album’s titles and sounds draw from moments scattered across the band’s 23 year history. Opener “Uncanny Valley Girl” marks the return of long retired effects like the delay pedal, stacking basslines into a dense, enveloping wall. It’s a clear eyed take on AI era paranoia, anchored by Fogarty’s steady rhythm snare taut, cymbals gently alive giving the sci-fi unease something solid to lean on. “Bjork’s Alarm Clock,” meanwhile, takes its title from an insult hurled at the band by a guitarist of a punk band on their first tour; you can almost hear Dunn and Fogarty’s quiet laughter beneath the buoyant bass and bow scratched strings.Still, Nowhere Faster is not a retreat into nostalgia. El Ten Eleven remains invested in risk and reinvention. The record continues to center Fogarty’s propulsive drumming and Dunn’s bass driven experimentation: the first four tracks (“side A”) feature electric bass, while the latter half (“side B”) shifts to acoustic bass processed through pedals, subtly altering the album’s emotional weight. “Last Night In The Kitchen” reaches for the slick, sleazy bombast of classic Bond themes, opening new corridors for Dunn’s ever expanding musical ambitions.Album closer “So It Goes” draws inspiration from Dunn’s reading of Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five, coinciding with his reckoning with aging, loss, and the deaths of friends. Built around one of his stranger sonic experiments a capo wrapped around a fretless acoustic bass the song unfurls into a twangy, americana inflected lament. It sounds like the quiet moments when reflection catches up to us, when we take inventory of the gnashes and scars left by the jaws of life.
